In 2016 SOAR convened a group of community partners to assist the Board of Directors in assessing current programs and planning for our future. The members of the Council are professionals who are intimately familiar with the foster youth environment, offering the perspective of the youth we serve as well as the system that supports foster care. They include a foster parent who is a retired superintendent of the Oakland School District, Court Appointment Special Advocates (CASA), Office of Education specialists in Foster Youth Services, and others with relevant expertise.
The Advisory Council worked with SOAR to assess the program’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities. They suggested areas for strategic growth over the next several years, and they continue to provide advice on SOAR’s services and initiatives.
